CV and interview skills ‘vital to job search’

job hunting

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s (CIPD) public policy adviser Gerwyn Davies, some professionals who lose their job will not have participated in an employment search for a long time.

In interview, Davies said that many individuals who are out of employment lack the necessary interviewing and CV writing skills to secure a swift return to the workplace, adding that the government should be applauded for recognising this issue and offering support, stating: “The bottom line is, the basic skills needed to get onto the job ladder are the first port of call.”

Davies commented that some people who are made redundant may be able to afford the luxury of taking time out to assess their options, but others need to secure a wage as an immediate priority.

According to the December 2008 Office for National Statistics figures on unemployment, the number of private sector workers fell by 128,000 between July and September.
