PMP certification?

LRO Deputy Project Manager Cathie Peddie

Steve asks: How does one go about PMP certification? Basic steps please…

In answer:
We have blogged before about grants for getting Prince2 training and project management certification, but simply almost anyone can become a member of the Project Management Institute, so why not find a local chapter and join?

The PMI recommend that you read their CAPM Handbook, which includes all of the details, but the basics are:

  • Join the PMI, engage with a local chapter
  • Make sure you have enough experience
  • Make sure you have the required contact hours. Their are plenty of REPs that you can obtain this from
  • Apply for full PMP membership/exam
  • Read PMBOK
  • Read another PMP book of your choice
  • Take practice exams – You can find plenty of them online
  • Take PMI exam

To pass the PMP exam, the PMI recommend 10 days/weeks for PgMP

Good Luck!
